한 이용자는 "여기에 가입한 남자들은 30대 중후반에서 40대가 비교적 많다"면서 "여성회원들은 상대적으로 어린 분들이 많은데, 대부분 돈 많은 남성을 만나려 가입하는 경우가 많은 것 같다"고 밝혔다. 이어 "아는 형과 함께 가입했는데, 솔직히 여자들 사진 공유하고, 정블레싱투유 소개팅보 공유하는 건 가입하고 있는 남성들이 대부분 기본으로 다 하고 있는 것 같다"며 "실제로 여성들에 대한 정보를 공유해도 당사자와 앱 회사는 알 수가 없으니 아직까지 크게 문제된 적은 없었다"고 설명했다.

직장인 김성은(28·가명)씨도 최근 인기가 많은 소개팅 앱에 가입했다. 이 앱의 가입과정은 나름 까다로웠다. 자신의 사진을 올린 후, 이미 가입돼 있는 남성들이 프로필을 평가하고, 그 평가 기준을 넘어야 가입이 가능했다. 우여곡절끝에 가입에 성공한 김씨는 황당한 경험을 했다. 연결된 남성이 김 씨에게 금전적인 요구를 해온 것이다.

김 씨는 "답변이 좀 늦었다고 매칭한 남자분이 대뜸 금전적인 보상을 요구해왔다"면서 "나중에는 부모님에 대한 욕설과 성적인 수치심까지 유발해 현재 정보통신법 위반으로 경찰에 신고까지 했다"고 밝혔다.

국내 소개팅앱 구글플레이 매출 규모 2위…덩치에 걸맞은 안전장치 부족

국내 소개팅 앱 시장은 구글 플레이 스토어에서 게임 산업에 이은 매출 2위 규모다. 국내 비게임 앱 중 매출 1위인 '카카오톡'을 제외하면 2위부터 상위권 랭킹은 전부 데이트앱이 차지하고 있다.

데이팅 앱은 30대에 들어서면서 인연을 만나는 것이 더 어려워진 직장인들에게 큰 인기를 끌고 있다. 코로나19로 오프라인 만남이 쉽지 않은 상황에서 새로운 인연을 찾으려는 2030세대들도 데이팅 앱으로 눈길을 돌리고 있다.

실제 데이터 분석 전문업체 앱애니에서 발간한 '모바일 현황 2021' 보고서에 따르면 데이팅 앱 시장의 이용자 지출액은 전년 대비 15% 증가한 30억 달러(약 3조5천460억원)를 기록했다. 이중 국내 이용자들은 데이팅 앱에 약 800억원 이상을 소비한 것으로 나타났다. 국내에서 대표적으로 이용되는 소개팅 앱으로는 아만다·골드스푼·스카이피플 등이 있다.

이 앱들은 '직장 인증을 통한 안전한 소개팅' 등을 내세우며 홍보하고 있다. 신분검증에 있어 신뢰할 수 있다는 주장이다. 그러나 취재결과 일부 데이팅 앱은 기혼 남녀들도 아무런 제한 없이 앱에 가입할 수 있는 것으로 확인됐다. 또 이용자 정보가 정확하지 않은 경우도 적지 않은 것으로 조사됐다.

이 밖에 원하지 않는 연락이 오거나 불순한 의도로 접근해서 발생되는 피해 사례도 있다. 개인정보 유출 문제도 있는데, 서비스 특성상 타 서비스 대비 피해가 클 수 있어 이용자들의 주의가 필요하다.

한국소비자원이 발표한 보고서에 따르면, 데이팅 앱 이용자 500명을 조사한 결과 38.4%(192명)가 '프로필 정보를 허위로 입력한 적이 있다"고 답했다. 응답자 중 49.8%가 "앱을 사용하다 피해를 봤다"고 밝혔다. '원치 않는 연락 지속'이 24.4%로 가장 많았고, '음란한 대화 및 소개팅엡 블레싱투유성적 접촉 유도' 23.8%, '개인정보 유출' 16.0% 순이었다.

"일대일 대화라도 지속적 모욕감 주고 불안감 조성했다면 죄"

지난해 2월에는 고객들의 개인정보가 유출된 혐으로 소개팅앱 A 운영사에 과징금 1억2천979만원과 과태료 1천860만원이 부과됐다. 해당 업체는 별도 동의 없이 고객의 민감정보를 수집하는 등 개인정보보호 법규를 위반한 혐의로 조사를 받았다. 당시 유출된 개인정보는 14만3천435명 규모로, 이름과 나이, 휴대전화 번호, 직업, 사진, 회사, 학교 정보 등이 포함된 것으로 개인정보보호위원회는 파악한 바 있다.

소개팅 앱 시장이 점차 확대되면서 몸집은 점차 불려갔지만 개인정보 유출과, 성 관련 범죄에 대한 규제와 안전장치가 부족하다는 지적이 나오는 이유다.

이창현 한국외국어대학교 교수는 "일대일로 나눈 대화라 하더라도, 상대방에게 지속적으로 모욕감을 주고 불안감을 조성했다면 불안감조성죄가 성립이 가능하다"면서 "금전적인 요구를 했다면, 이는 공갈죄까지 성립이 가능한 부분"이라고 설명했다.

얼굴 한 번 직접 본 적 없는 남자친구를 위해 전화금융사기(보이스피싱) 조직의 현금수거책 노릇을 한 20대 여성에게 실형이 선고됐다.

의정부지방법원 남양주지원 형사1단독(부장판사 정혜원)은 사기방조 혐의로 기소된 A씨에게 징역 10개월을 선고했다고 1일 밝혔다.

A씨는 지난해 7월 남자친구 B씨로부터 회사 일을 도와달라는 부탁을 받고 보이스피싱 범죄에 가담한 혐의로 기소돼 재판에 넘겨졌다.

직장인 김경민(30)씨는 지난해 여름 몽골로 10박11일 여행을 떠났다. 여행을 떠난 이들 모두 김씨와 같은 ‘비혼 여성’이었다. 비혼 여성 친구를 찾는 애플리케이션(앱)에서 만난 이들은 남을 의식한 머리와 옷 꾸밈 등을 최소화하고 편한 차림으로 여행을 다니는 ‘디폴트립(기본을 뜻하는 디폴트(default)와 트립(trip)의 합성어) 여행’을 다녀왔다. 김씨는 “대부분 초면이었지만 비혼 여성이라는 공감대가 있어 쉽게 친해졌다”며 “혼자가 아니라는 생각에 안정감이 든다”고 했다.
결혼하지 않겠다고 다짐하는 20·30대 비혼 여성이 증가하면서 비혼 여성을 연결해 주는 커뮤니티 가입자도 늘고 있다. 기존에도 지역별로 비혼 여성들이 함께 교류하고 생활하는 공동체들은 있었지만, 최근 엠지(MZ)세대들은 모바일 앱을 통해 조금 더 가벼운 방식으로 비혼 여성 친구를 사귀는 추세다. 이들의 삶을 보여주는 콘텐츠도 늘어나는 등 점점 비혼 여성 관련 산업이 커질 것이라는 전망도 나온다.
직장인 권아영(32)씨가 비혼을 결심한 후 가장 먼저 시작한 것도 비혼 여성 친구들을 사귀는 것이었다. 3년 전 권씨는 가부장적인 결혼 제도 안에 편입되지 않겠다며 비혼 결심을 굳혔지만, 이내 불안감을 느꼈다. “몇 안 되는 친구들이 모두 결혼을 한다고 하더라고요. 결혼을 하지 않으면 외톨이가 되지 않을까 하는 불안감이 들었는데, 비혼 여성 친구들을 사귀고 나서 생각이 바뀌었어요. 기존 사회의 규범을 벗어난 친구들인 만큼 연대감이 더 끈끈하게 들었고, 제 인간관계도 오히려 확장된다는 느낌을 받았어요.”
이들이 비혼 친구를 구하는 앱인 ‘페밀리’ 이용자도 점차 늘어나고 있다. 2021년 8월 오픈한 ‘페밀리’는 출시 한 달 만에 다운로드 수 1만명과 구글 플레이 스토어 커뮤니케이션 부분 5위 등을 기록했다. 만 19살 이상 여성만 가입할 수 있으며 온라인 게시판이 운영되는 것은 물론 운동·외국어·취미 등을 주제로 한 오프라인 소모임 회원을 모집하는 글도 여럿 올라온다. 특히 해당 앱에서 활동하는 비혼 여성들은 대부분 엠지(MZ)세대라는 특징을 가지고 있다. 권씨는 “원래는 온라인 만남에 부정적이었지만 평소 인간관계만으로는 비혼 여성을 찾기 어렵다 보니 앱을 통해 친구를 찾게 된 것”이라며 “이곳에서 만난 비혼 여성 중 20대 초·중반이 많은 점도 놀라웠다”고 했다. 비혼 여성 가운데서도 ‘아이티(IT) 개발자 모임’ ‘웹 소설 창작자 모임’ 등 세분화된 모임이 가능한 것도 특징이다.

통계를 보면 비혼 여성의 숫자는 점차 증가할 것으로 보인다. 여성가족부는 2020년 전체 가구 중 16%가 여성 1인 가구이며, 지금의 증가 추세대로라면 10년 뒤 전체 가구의 20%가 여성 1인 가구가 될 것이란 전망을 내놓았다.
비혼 여성들이 제작하거나, 이들을 대상으로 한 잡지나 콘텐츠 등이 많아지는 것도 이런 흐름과 무관하지 않다. ‘비혼’을 주제로 한 팟캐스트 <비혼세>는 재작년 말 누적 조회수 800만회를 기록했다. 비혼 여성 커뮤니티 ‘에미프’에서 만난 비혼 여성들이 만든 잡지 ‘비평’은 2019년부터 지난해 11월까지 크라우드펀딩 플랫폼 <텀블벅>을 통해 10권의 잡지를 펴내며 누적 1500명의 후원을 받았다. ‘비평’ 관계자는 “‘집’이라는 주제를 다룬 호에서는 비혼 여성이 집을 수리할 때 필요한 공구를 소개하는 식”이라며 “비혼 여성들 간의 느슨한 연대감을 주는 것을 목표로 하고 있다”고 했다.

또 '소개팅 어플'에 관해서는 "무엇이 문제냐"는 입장이었다. 상철은 "오래 전부터 휴대폰에 깔려있던 사용하지도 않는 어플이 무엇이 문제냐. 불법 사이트도 아니고 누구나 가입할 수 있는 정상적인 어플"이라며 "오히려 화장실 간 사이 허락 없이 휴대폰을 열어본 영숙에게 의아했던 기억이 난다. 여전히 영숙의 그 행동이 문제지 깔려있던 어플이 무엇이 문제인지 알 수 없다. 물론 연인으로서 오해 살만한 상황을 발생시킨 부분에 대해서는 미안하게 생각한다"고 말했다.

그러면서 "가장 중요한 건 영숙이 지속적으로 사과문을 강요하며, 올리지 않으면 폭로(내용은 알 수 없지만)를 이어가겠다고 협박했다. 일을 키우기 싫어 어쩔 수 없이 영숙과 협의한 사과문 내용을 '고민하는 정우님'이라는 유튜브에 그대로 올린다는 조건으로 전달했다. 하지만 이마저도 영숙이 허락 없이 재편집해 게시했다. 해당 유튜브 채널에 즉시 삭제해달라고 요구까지 하는 상황이 벌어졌다"고 털어놓았다.

상철은 "근거 없는 사생활 폭로와 그로 인한 악플로 정상적인 생활이 불가능한 지경이다. 조용히 넘기고자 무던히 노력했으나 더 이상 영숙의 가해행위를 참고 있을 수만은 없었다. 다시 한번 죄송하다"고 덧붙였다.

상철과 영숙은 지난 14일 방송된 '나는 솔로'에서 최종 커플로 드러나며 응원받았다. 하지만 곧바로 유튜브 채널을 통해 "응원하는 사이로 남기로 했다"며 결별을 알렸다.

한 어플은 남성이 여성에게 말을 걸 때마다 여성이 정한 포인트가 지급되고, 여성 가입자는 받은 포인트를 환전할 수 있습니다.

검찰은 이런 특정 어플의 방식을 이용해 돈을 가로챈 일당을 붙잡았습니다.

검찰에 잡힌 이들은 사무실을 만들어 사장과 중간관리책, 계좌모집책과 직원으로 역할을 나눴습니다.

계좌모집책이 확보한 여성 사진과 은행계좌를 이용해, 남성이 여성인 것처럼 가입한 뒤 남성들과 대화하면서 포인트를 모았습니다.

계속 교제할 것처럼 속인 뒤 교제비 명목으로 돈을 받아내기도 했습니다.

"휴대폰용 어플을 컴퓨터로 이용할 수 있도록 특정 소프트웨어를 컴퓨터에 설치를 했고, 많은 창에서 최대한 많은 남성들에게 동시 다발적으로 대화를 걸게 했습니다."

2019년 9월부터 최근까지 3만여 명으로부터 10억 4천만 원 상당의 포인트와 현금 1억 6,800만 원을 받아 챙겼습니다.

당초 이 사건은 계좌모집책이었던 여성이 남성 가입자로부터 교제비용으로 400만 원을 받아 챙긴 소액 사기로 송치가 됐습니다.

그러나 공범이 더 있을 것으로 본 검찰이 계좌 추적과 어플 운영업체를 압수 수색하면서 조직적인 범행이 드러났습니다.

"수사 기록을 검토하면서 증거 관계에 대한 의구심, 그리고 보완수사의 필요성을 다시 한번 크로스체킹 했던 것이고, 이 사안의 특성상 증거인멸의 우려가 있었기 때문에 검찰에서 직접 수사를 진행하게 되었습니다."

검찰은 남성 3명을 사기 등의 혐의로 구속 기소하고 공범 14명을 불구속 기소했습니다.

신종 코로나바이러스 감염증(코로나19) 사태로 그동안 사회적 만남이 어려웠던 가운데 최근 2년간 데이팅 애플리케이션(앱) 이용자 수는 크게 늘어난 것으로 나타났다. 팬데믹 우려에 그동안 대면 소개팅이나 이른바 '자만추(자연스러운 만남 추구)'가 제한된 탓이다.

SK그룹의 디지털 광고 전문기업 인크로스는 최근 국내 주요 데이팅 앱 이용 추이를 분석한 '미디어 데이터 클리핑' 리포트를 발표했다.

리포트에 따르면 지난 3월 기준 상위 10개 데이팅 앱의 월간 순이용자(MAU) 수는 78만7184명(중복값 제외)으로 집계됐다. 이는 코로나19가 본격적으로 확산하기 이전인 지난 2019년 4월(58.4만명)과 비교하면 34.8% 증가한 수치다.

앱별 월간 MAU는 지난 3월 기준으로 틴더(21만5000명)가 1위를 기록했다. 이어 글램(18만명), 헬로톡(17만2000명), 여보야(12만1000명), 위피(10만8000명), 정오의 데이트(8만6000명), 썸데이(8만3000명), 탄탄(7만3000명), 다톡(6만6000명), 미프(5만1000명) 순으로 집계됐다.

앱 이용자의 성별 비중은 남성이 압도적이었다. 상위 10개 앱의 평균 성비는 남성 79.7%, 여성 20.3%로 집계됐다. 월간 MAU가 가장 많았던 틴더는 남성 이용자 비중이 96.6%에 달했다. 또 정오의 데이트(97.8%), 탄탄(96%), 위피(94.3%) 등 상당수 앱에서 이용자 10명 중 9명 이상이 남성으로 집계됐다. 특히 남성 이용자가 100%(미피)인 앱도 있었다.

반면 월간 MAU 3위를 차지한 헬로톡은 여성 이용자의 비중이 84.7%로 나타났다. 인크로스 측은 “헬로톡은 연애나 데이트보다는 외국 유저와의 언어 교환 용도로 활용하는 앱인 만큼 10대 이용자가 72.3%의 높은 비중을 차지한다"고 설명했다.
